Cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis with the help of a laser. The surgery takes a very short time, somewhere in the order of about 15 to 20 minutes. One eye is generally operated on at a time. The procedure is performed while the patient remains under local anesthesia. Our patients feel no pain or discomfort during the procedure. The laser is used to create a tiny incision in the eye through which the natural clouded lenses removed. A new man-made lens will then be inserted through the same tiny incision. This new lens can either provide the patient with excellent distance vision, or be a new IOL which will provide patients with excellent vision at multiple distances.
